Use cycle counts for selected products during trading and schedule a full count when staff can check the range without rushing. Choose a manageable group, pause movement through that area if practical, and mark which shelves have already been counted.
Record sales, deliveries, returns, and transfers that occur during the count so they are not mistaken for a discrepancy. Compare the counted quantity with the stock record only after those movements are accounted for. Recheck a mismatch before changing the available quantity.
Investigate repeated differences by checking receiving, picking, damaged goods, and unrecorded counter sales. Keep a brief note of the adjustment and its reason. A cycle count can reduce disruption, but it does not replace a periodic review of the full stock record. Schedule each count by product group and tell staff which area is being checked.
